racers

this was taken after a 10k we did last summer. HARDCORE.

sometimes tommy and i run. well, actually, we jog. mostly we do this "running" because it helps us feel good about ourselves and allows us to eat whatever we want (which we generally do. no dieting around these parts). usually, though, we're unmotivated about our running and so we need some incentive to keep it up--like a RACE. if we sign up for a race, our bodies think we HAVE to keep running so that we don't die on race day.

this all started a year and a half ago when i ran a half-marathon with my study abroad friends and sarah. tommy was going to run but he pulled an unmentionable muscle in a flag football game the week before the race. after i ran that, i swore i would never do it again because of the excruciating pain i was in. but now tommy's all jealous and really wants to run a half-marathon this summer so we decided to work up to it.

three months ago, we signed up for the rex lee run 10k race. we basically didn't train at all for it and i threw up at the end. in public. we were pretty out of shape.

but TODAY, we just ran a ten-mile race in the provo canyon. for the last three miles the provo marathon runners were running right next to us on the same street, just showing off how great they are. BUT we didn't stop at all, just 10 miles straight through, and we even went pretty fast. last night i decided that my goal was an hour and thirty minutes and i finished right around 1:29:29, so goal accomplished.

then we went and celebrated our awesomeness by eating french toast at magleby's.

next up: half-marathon #2 in july?
